I can't believe a day after LeShoure the Lions former 2nd round draft pick gets busted for possession of marijuana, same thing happens to the Lions former 1st round pick Fairley whom is expected to form quite a tandem with Suh. One thing I don't get...if you're going to smoke marijuana....why would you do it while driving? That's pretty damn similar to drunk driving, if you slip up you're going to get caught, it's common sense. However like I said before they (professional athletes) shouldn't even do that they're professionals they need to start acting like it. For example Mike Valenti of 97.1 made a couple of good points on the air today, one, don't do drugs, two, wear a condom and three, walk away from fights.
Players like Fairley, LeShoure, Antonio Cromartie and Braylon Edwards could all learn something from these 3 rules, again it's not that hard you're a professional start acting like it.

Lets hope Mikel LeShoure is not the next Charles Rogers
The Detroit Lions really haven't had a good running back since maybe Kevin Jones but he couldn't even be consistent since he did suffer from an injury each year. After the Monday Night Football game vs the Bears last season it looked like for sure the Lions had finally had found a running back in Jahvid Best as he had 12 carries for 163 yards including the long explosive 88 yard touchdown run on a draw that even had Bears LB Brian Urlacher shaking his head. But then sure enough sooner or later he was kept out due to concussions just like he was kept out his rookie season due to turf toe. Last year the Lions drafted RB Mikel LeShoure out of the 2nd round (57th overall pick) with the hope of having that mix of thunder (LeShoure) and lightning (Best) at the RB spot like how recent Super Bowl champions the NY Giants had Bradshaw for speed and Jacobs for power. When Mikel LeShoure tore his achilles in training camp it sure looked like it would be a blow to their running game and when Best went out as well later during the season, it sure was.

Austin Jackson, is the 3rd season the charm?
It doesn't seem too long ago when the infamous blockbuster deal between the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees had happened. As to who won or lost the trade is still yet to be determined as in this 3 team deal the Detroit Tigers received CF Austin Jackson, left handed relief pitcher Phil Coke from the Yankees, relief pitcher Daniel Schlereth and SP Max Scherzer from the Diamondbacks. The Yankees received CF Curtis Granderson (also known as Grandy) from the Detroit Tigers and the Diamondbacks got SP Edwin Jackson from the Tigers and SP Ian Kennedy from the Yankees. Last season for the Yankees Curtis Granderson (selected starting CF for the All Star team) finished with a .262 batting average but also hit a whopping 41 homers good for 2nd in MLB only behind Bautista's 43, a career high in RBIs with 119 that season and finished 4th in MVP voting. Ian Kennedy had a breakout year as a SP for the Arizona Diamondbacks (who ended up winning the NL West last year under manager former Tiger Kirk Gibson) with 21 wins and only 4 losses with a 2.88 era yet only finished 4th in NL Cy Young voting.
Edwin Jackson has since floated from team to team from the White Sox to the Cardinals to now recently the Washington Nationals. As for our Tigers now, Max Scherzer won 15 games and only lost 9 but still recorded a ERA last season of 4.43. Now as for Austin Jackson's season he finished with a batting average of .249 down from his rookie average of .293 but his home runs went up from 4 in his rookie season to 10. That brings to speculation perhaps in his rookie season he was just hitting for contact and now he have been hitting for more power in his second season. Funny thing is a former Tigers CF by the name of Curtis Granderson (I think you see where i'm going here) wouldn't even hit as high as an average Jackson hit in his rookie season until his 4th season as a Tiger when he batted .302 and hit 23 homers.
The point here is if it took Granderson 4 seasons to get towards his prime then perhaps with the rookie season Jackson had there's a chance that his 2nd season might have just been a sophomore slump. One thing that hasn't changed for Jackson though these seasons is his fielding whether it'd be from robbing homers, triples and doubles to gunning runners down at the plate, and his ability to get on base and steal, stealing 22 times but only got caught 5 times last season. Not to mention again he did hit 6 more homers than he did in his rookie season and if we were to compare him to Granderson the way Granderson progressed in hitting home runs for the Tigers it should be a good sign. As Granderson didn't really become a full time starter till his 3rd season and went from 19 to 23 to 22 to 30 homers over those seasons, Jackson became a full time starter his rookie year. Another thing to consider right now is Austin Jackson is only 25 and still progressing as a MLB player, Granderson at age 31 is just now entering his prime.
With all this being said I'm willing to make a bold prediction that Jackson cuts down on his strikeouts and hits a career high 20 home runs this season, I believe his power his truly developing and we'll see it this season. So far he's batting .284 in Spring Training with 2 home runs and yes 20 strikeouts, however as Jhonny Peralta proved last season don't put too much stock into Spring Training as he had a .197 average in ST yet a .299 average in the regular season, funny how things can change. I've at times been wrong and I've at times been right for example I felt that Granderson playing in that new Yankee Stadium to his benefit could hit 40 homers if he stayed healthy all season he did, he hit 41. Lions Draft Analysis and A Possible Solution(s) To Their Problems
Last season despite the Detroit Lions going 10-6 in the 2011 season to clinch a wild card playoff spot, they were ranked 23rd in the league for points allowed with 24.2 per game. Their defense was also ranked 22nd against the pass with 239.4 yards allowed per game, not to mention ranked last in the postseason with 459 yards allowed per game (even though they only played one game obviously, that number is insane). Excuses have been made saying the defensive line didn't play as well as they should have and that anyone would lose to the Saints the way the Lions did in the Wild Card round. Now all of that may be true however you could make an argument that perhaps building a solid secondary would make things easier for the defensive line, good coverage giving them more time to find the trenches and attack the QB. The secondary could definitely use a boost especially when a backup QB (i.e. Matt Flynn) puts up 480 yards, 6 TDs on your team's defense....
Despite being Mossed by Devery Henderson in that Sunday Night game vs the Saints last season, Eric Wright numberwise was a solid corner (67 tackles, 7 assists, 16 pass deflections, 4 interceptions and one forced fumble) and now has left the Lions for the Bucs a move that possible might make the Lions secondary worse than it was last season. From the position where the Lions are drafting a couple corners come to mind that might be available at the 23rd spot. With Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick to South Carolina CB Stephen Gilmore though either falling to the Lions could be unlikely as well, leaving them in a tough position. Lions GM Martin Mayhew has lately been using the "take the best player available scenario" (for example, taking DT Nick Fairley over CB Prince Amukamara last season to pair up with DT Ndamukong Suh). With that being said if Kirkpatrick or Gilmore are both off the board at 23 it would make it harder to find a corner they could use since Janoris Jenkins CB out of Northern Alabama would be considered a "reach" at that point since he's expected to be a high 2nd round pick at least (Todd McShay has him going to the Panthers with their 40th overall pick in his latest mock draft). Sure the Lions could make a trade for Eagles CB Asante Samuel for a 3rd round pick to help address that secondary, there is only one problem....the limited amount of cap room they have available this season.
In other words the Lions could make an acquisition for him but still would have to pay him...so with that limited cap room the Lions have, the probability of this move happening is pretty much impossible. Sure at the 23rd overall pick the Lions don't necessarily have to address the secondary if the right player isn't available, the Lions could address the offensive line instead, either or. However last season Detroit's offensive line only allowed 36 sacks last season good for 17th in the league, only allowing 8 and 4 more than last season's Super Bowl finalists, the Giants and the Patriots. So with that being said their offensive line wasn't that bad, at least not as bad as the numbers the secondary allowed, just like Jay-Z once said "Men lie, women lie, numbers don't." But despite the recent resigning of offensive tackle Jeff Backus, the thing to consider is he is 34 and isn't getting any younger so the Lions might want to start setting up our future to reboost the offensive line. Then again with that being said the Lions could address that in the 1st or 2nd round depending what player is available in either round whether it's offensive guard Mike Adams out of Ohio State or Jeff Allen offensive guard out of Illinois.
The Lions could start rebuilding the offensive line this season or next season or both, for example in the 2nd round this season and the 1st round next season. With teams within the division making moves, particularly the hated Chicago Bears with the acquisations of WR Brandon Marshall, RB Michael Bush and QB Jason Campbell to backup Jay Cutler (to keep their playoff hopes alive, something Caleb Hanie couldn't do when the impossible happened to Cutler for the Bears to collapse and the Lions to make the playoffs, sad but true), there are no more excuses for GM Martin Mayhew to not make a move(s) to fill up holes that their franchise may (desperately) need. With that being said Chicago now has something they didn't have last season a top notch WR and a backup QB, so nothing is guaranteed that the Lions can win as many games as they won or even win as many as last season unless impact move(s) are made. Now with WR Calvin Johnson extended through 2019 and LB Stephen Tulloch resigned for 5 years, the only player left to resign for a long term deal is DE Cliff Avril. However if Avril is asking for too much money, a possible solution may be to have him agree to a sign and trade that brings the Lions either a solid young CB or pick(s) (depending if a 1st rounder or high 2nd rounder is included in the deal). So in conclusion either the offensive line or secondary could be addressed with their 1st round pick, depending on best player available, yet if a deal is made (Avril example) for a CB or high pick(s) perhaps their needs of CB, OG and LB could all be addressed, surprise the fans Mayhew.

Rajon Rondo to get dealt, the possibilities
Despite the Boston Celtics remaining in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference possibly due to point guard Rajon Rondo's average of 14.2 points, 5 rebounds and 9.6 assists per game. The questions that come up for this situation that come to mind is can Boston get a point guard in return? At least somebody young and promising? Can they make the playoffs without Rondo? or will the team collapse? ala the 2008-09 Detroit Pistons after Billups was traded to Denver for Iverson. Chances are he'll get traded to a contender. I see 4 possibilities:Philadelphia 76ers: Philadelphia has Jrue Holiday or Lou Williams they could give to Boston to replace Rondo. The suggested trade in this situation would be to trade Lou Williams and Andres Nocioni to get Rondo, the 76ers already have a pretty good defensive team, it'd be even better with Rondo.
Los Angeles Lakers: The Los Angeles Lakers need a point guard but don't have a lot of pieces to get one, though their best bet here might be to trade Pau Gasol. Also along with parting with rookie point guard Darius Morris who hasn't seen much playing time this season and add a first round pick that might intrigue Ainge enough to make a deal with their bitter rivals as crazy as that sounds and the Cs will have to add O'Neal and Wilcox to make that deal work.
Miami Heat: Whether you like it or not, Miami definitely has the pieces to make a deal to get Rondo as scary as it sounds. They have a promising young point guard in Norris Cole (averaging 8.7 ppg and 2.5 assists off the bench) who might possibly be already better than their actual starter Mario Chalmers. Therefore Cole could be dealt along with Chalmers and Mike Miller to turn Miami's Big 3 into a Big 4.
Orlando Magic: Do the Magic want Dwight Howard to stay? Then they have to go get him pieces, the perfect opportunity is on the table for them with Rondo on the trading block. Adding Rondo to the Magic could make the players around him better even Dwight himself, it's a move that could definitely make Dwight considering staying. If I was the GM of the Magic I'd try dealing Jameer Nelson along with Earl Clark (a young 6'10 forward the Cs might be interested in since they need another big man) to get Rondo.

Now That The Lockout Is Over Its Time For A NFL Preview
I know it's early and they still have to play the games before the teams in the Super Bowl are determined however I feel that so far clearly the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots have been the true winners in free agency and should be the NFC and AFC favorites. Yes the Patriots took big risks in getting players in Chad Johnson and especially Albert Haynesworth for having character issues. However it's a big risk, big reward situation especially since Chad will be guided and catching passes from Tom Brady and Bill Bellichik loves a challenge especially trying to correct players with character issues ie. Randy Moss after all it did work for a couple of seasons at least, they also resigned LB Tully Banta Cain. Albert Haynesworth gives the Patriots a potential threat on the defensive line if the Patriots can just motivate him to play. Despite the trades the Patriots made for Albert Haynesworth and Chad Johnson, the Eagles topped that by trading Kevin Kolb for CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, signing DE Jason Babin from the Houston Texans, Cullen Jenkins DT from the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, signed a winner in Vince Young to a 1 year deal to learn under Reid, get his mental issues straightened out and be ready in case Vick gets hurt during the season once again.
But lets not forget Philly's most important move of them all...they sneaked in the last second to win the Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes and now their cornerbacks are absolutely ridiculous with Asante Samuel, Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie manning the secondary. The only question out of all this is can they all coexist or will there be chemistry issues? That is yet to be determined. I've given you my thoughts on the two teams I think could potentially be in the Super Bowl but now let me give you my thoughts on how this NFL postseason blueprint should turn out to me. So lets start off in the NFC North where my Detroit Lions reside:
NFC North (predicted finish):
1. Green Bay Packers. Despite losing key players on their defensive front in DT Cullen Jenkins to the Philadelphia Eagles and LB Nick Barnett to the Buffalo Bills, one thing is clear the Green Bay Packers still have Aaron Rodgers one of the best QBs in the NFL right now if not the best. They also still have key players in Ryan Grant, Greg Jennings, Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson as well. So it shouldn't come as a surprise for the Green Bay Packers to not only win the NFC North but to also possibly make a return to the Super Bowl to defend their championship mainly because of Aaron Rodgers.
2. Detroit Lions. Coming hot off the way they finished last season winning 4 games in a row not to mention they were the last team to beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on that win streak as well to finish off with 6 wins last season because of that 4 game win streak instead of 2. With that being said after the season they had last season in large thanks to NFL Rookie Of The Year DT Ndamukong Suh it is expected this season for the Detroit Lions to rise to the challenge. The Detroit Lions also had a decent Free Agency filling needs at LB with Justin Durant, CB with Eric Wright and resigning Chris Houston and also adding Stephen Tulloch from the Tennessee Titans to shore up the MLB position . Despite all these moves it wouldn't hurt them to add another corner to shore up that secondary preferrably a Randall Gay or Carlos Rogers who can get his hands on the ball and deflect passes....he just can't seem to catch them for interceptions however. But the true key out of all this despite the Lions defensive line with Suh, Fairley, Avril and Vanden Bosch that might be one of the best in the league if not the best defensive line, the real key to their season is the health of 3rd year QB Matthew Stafford.
The last thing Stafford wants his legacy to be remembered as in a china doll, he does get hit a lot and he has shown toughness preferrably against the Cleveland Browns in his rookie season when he separated his shoulder on one play yet still managed to throw the game winning touchdown to Brandon Pettigrew with no time remaining. He also showed when healthy last season he's a leader throwing 6 touchdowns and only 1 interception in his short time played especially against the Washington Redskins last season when he threw what turned out to be the game winning touchdown pass in that shootout as well against the New York Jets who had a solid showing until he got hurt and chances are if he doesn't the Lions would have ended up beating the Jets as well. The Detroit Lions lost many close games last season and this looks like it should be the season where they finally change all that but really this will all depend on the health of Matthew Stafford who could easily be the 2nd or 3rd best QB in the NFC North when healthy.
3. Minnesota Vikings. They lost Sidney Rice but gained Jerry Aromashadu from the Chicago Bears, picked up WR Michael Jenkins but most importantly of all they traded for QB Donovan McNabb who may very well still have something left in the tank despite the terrible season he had in Washington last season getting benched for Rex Grossman and throwing a career high in interceptions. Things could be different in Minnesota than they were in Washington because his WR corps aren't bad despite the loss of Sidney Rice he still has an explosive threat in Percy Harvin, a possible decent possession receiver in Michael Jenkins, Jerry Aromashadu and also Bernard Berrian. There is also a possibility they could sign a physical deep threat in Braylon Edwards though it seems unlikeable he'll be signed there due to his latest off the field issues.
4. Chicago Bears. This would be a crazy transition from going from a season to making the NFC Championship game to a season finishing last in the division. But since the Chicago Bears weren't able to make any huge free agent acquisitions with the signing of WR Roy Williams and RB Marion Barber recently cut from the Dallas Cowboys and LB Vernon Gholston from the New York Jets not to mention they lost C Olin Kreutz, deep threat WR Jerry Aromashadu so they could be headed for a long season. Jay Cutler is missing a target to throw since traded from the Denver Broncos when he had Brandon Marshall, now I know that Roy Williams did have his best year under the Martz system in 2007 and that was probably the main reason Chicago signed him despite his seasons with the Dallas Cowboys where he clearly has had issues catching the football. If they end up signing a top WR like a Braylon Edwards or a Malcolm Floyd to give Jay Cutler a real target I'd expect better from them but since they did nothing to improve their team the Chicago Bears football team could be looking at a season they wish would have stayed locked out. Update: They also recently lost DT Tommie Harris on that defensive line and Jay Cutler's safety net in TE Greg Olson, a bad season for Jay Cutler might be in store and could be run out of Chicago by the end of the this season not saying he will but it is possible.
NFC South:
1. New Orleans Saints. The Saints did say goodbye to RB Reggie Bush by trading him to the Miami Dolphis but they drafted Mark Ingram RB out of Alabama and signed Darren Sproles RB from the Chargers so despite losing Bush the Saints improved at the RB position. The New Orleans Saints failed to win the division last season the season after their marvelous Super Bowl victory but Drew Brees doesn't have losing the division as an option this season. Who Dat
2. Atlanta Falcons. Despite adding WR Julio Jones to that explosive offensive in Atlanta that he should immediately thrive in and the signing of DE Ray Edwards from the Minnesota Vikings. The Atlanta Falcons didn't do enough to improve their team more than the New Orleans Saints.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite the season they had last season this team has done nothing in free agency to improve their team. Josh Freeman could have another solid season however.
4. Carolina Panthers. Rookie QBs usually don't do well in their first year and it shouldn't be no different for Panthers rookie QB Cam Newton despite having a terrific running game to support him with RB DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart and trading special teams threat WR Armanti Edwards to receive one of the best TEs in the NFL in Greg Olson. But I do feel like the Panthers might have overpaid some players especially Charles Johnson and they still have yet to resign WR Steve Smith for Newton, they need to give the QB as many targets as possible.
NFC East:
1. Philadelphia Eagles. Really any surprise here? They signed one of the best CBs in the NFL and the best CB in Free Agency in Nnamdi Asomugha, possibly fleeced the Arizona Cardinals by getting another CB in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for QB Kevin Kolb and replaced backup QB Kevin Kolb in a winning QB in Vince Young who has the 8th most winning percentage among active QBs in the NFL right now. They also added DE Jason Babin from the Houston Texans, RB Ronnie Brown from the Miami Dolphins to help them on 3rd and short situations, but most importantly they finally gave Vick protection with OT Ryan Harris from the Denver Broncos. The Eagles have a backup to Vick and McCoy in Young and Brown now, they addressed their DL, they addressed their secondary, addressed their offensive line and now might even address their weak linebacking corps if the rumors of an Asante Samuel and a 1st rounder to the 49ers for LB Patrick Willis are true. It would be hard to see any holes on this team if that move happens, but now they have stolen Steve Smith from the New York Giants to add to their receiving corps of DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. And the Giants? well that's another story...
2. Dallas Cowboys. Now if you know me you probably know that I am definitely not the biggest fan of Tony Romo. They did cut Leonard Davis, Marc Colombo (who seemed to get a penalty every game last season), Roy Williams (can't catch, overpaid for only being the #3 receiver) and Marion Barber (fumbler) for no more locker room distractions, resigned T Doug Free, G Kyle Kosier, CB Alan Ball and DE Marcus Spears. No significant moves during free agency really but ever since they fired coach Wade Phillips last season and let interim coach and now full season head coach Jason Garrett take the reins it just seemed like the players were more comfortable and because of that they went on a run last season. For example, after the game against Green Bay when they lost 45-7 they ended up beating the Giants in NY 33-20 their rival that beat them 41-35 the previous game in Dallas, so in this case the Cowboys returned the favor. After Phillips was fired the Cowboys went on a 5-3 stretch to finish at 6-10 and with Miles Austin and Dez Bryant (who should be due for a huge breakout season due to the plays he made last season while healthy) at the receiving corps along with Jason Witten Tony Romo no longer has any excuses especially since Jason Garrett finally opened up the offense for the QB if Jon Kitna can do it so can Tony Romo right?
3. New York Giants. As bad as this offseason has been for the New York Football Giants I do not see them finishing last in the NFC East despite Plaxico spurning the New York Football Giants for the New York Football Jets, losing Kevin Boss to the Raiders, the Osi situation, 1st round draft pick Prince Amukamara already getting injured in training camp and recently losing Steve Smith to their hated rival the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite all of this they still have Eli Manning, they resigned Ahmad Bradshaw who is a pretty good running back despite having fumbling issues, still have decent receiving corps in Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham to fill in the void for Steve Smith and still have a decent corner in Terrell Thomas. After all there is no way they could finish last in the NFC East that spot is reserved for the Deadskins who once gave the biggest bust in the NFL, JaMarcus Russell a tryout last season.

Like I said before this team gave JaMarcus Russell a tryout last season..and instead of giving Donovan McNabb an offensive line to protect him and a decent deep theat to help out McNabb down the field they traded him to the Minnesota Vikings. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder had all this money but only used it to resign Santana Moss, and sign WRs Jabbar Gafney and Donte Stallworth and couldn't even a land a top wideout in a Santonio Holmes or Braylon Edwards, they don't even give Vince Young a shot even though he has the 8th best winning percentage among active QBs and John Beck is their gunslinger? it speaks for itself....
NFC West
1. San Francisco 49ers. I was gonna say the St. Louis Rams would take the division after the close battle they had with the Seattle Seahawks last season and with the already resurgence of rookie QB Sam Bradford last season. But the San Francisco 49ers hired Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh's brother Jim Harbaugh and there's a chance that just like John, Jim might catch on right away and change this team's stature and get them back into the postseason just like John. Sure they did cut CB Nate Clements this offseason but they also signed CBs Donte Whitner and Carlos Rogers (who is a great cover corner but can't seem to catch many interceptions, the Roy Williams of CBs). The 49ers were also able to pry Braylon Edwards out of the Jets for only a 3.5 million 1 year deal to add to their offensive threats of Michael Crabtree, Josh Morgan, Vernon Davis and even Frank Gore. The only question is who is playing QB? The 49ers did resign Alex Smith and if he can't get it done this season with all these weapons he has no more excuses and it might be time for their 2nd round draft pick this season Colin Kaepernick to take over the reins. But thats the only question remaining for San Francisco is their QB if Alex Smith gets it done they should have no problem making the postseason especially since the Seattle Seahawks made it last season in that division with a 7-9 record...clearly the weakest division in the NFL not just the NFC.

However this offseason they lost QB Matt Hasslebeck to the Tennessee Titans but still have Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch and added a potential deep threat in Sidney Rice but my question is at QB can Tarvaris Jackson be as effective as their signal caller as veteran QB Matt Hasslebeck was all those seasons? From what I saw in Minnesota from him I don't think he has enough accuracy to but we'll see what happens from this standpoint.

This could end up costing them big this season because if Kolb can't get it done, chances are with Larry Fitzgerald's contract up he'll most likely be looking elsewhere and coach Ken Wisenhunt might be on the hot seat as well. Not to mention since they lost on the Braylon Edwards sweepstakes to San Francisco and WR Steve Breaston leaving for Kansas City they don't even have a legitimate #2 at WR to make problems worse enough for them. Not only do I not see them winning this pathetic division but I can't see them finishing any better than last place in this division.
But lets not forget Philly's most important move of them all...they sneaked in the last second to win the Nnamdi Asomugha sweepstakes and now their cornerbacks are absolutely ridiculous with Asante Samuel, Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie manning the secondary. The only question out of all this is can they all coexist or will there be chemistry issues? That is yet to be determined. I've given you my thoughts on the two teams I think could potentially be in the Super Bowl but now let me give you my thoughts on how this NFL postseason blueprint should turn out to me. So lets start off in the NFC North where my Detroit Lions reside:

1. Green Bay Packers. Despite losing key players on their defensive front in DT Cullen Jenkins to the Philadelphia Eagles and LB Nick Barnett to the Buffalo Bills, one thing is clear the Green Bay Packers still have Aaron Rodgers one of the best QBs in the NFL right now if not the best. They also still have key players in Ryan Grant, Greg Jennings, Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson as well. So it shouldn't come as a surprise for the Green Bay Packers to not only win the NFC North but to also possibly make a return to the Super Bowl to defend their championship mainly because of Aaron Rodgers.
2. Detroit Lions. Coming hot off the way they finished last season winning 4 games in a row not to mention they were the last team to beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on that win streak as well to finish off with 6 wins last season because of that 4 game win streak instead of 2. With that being said after the season they had last season in large thanks to NFL Rookie Of The Year DT Ndamukong Suh it is expected this season for the Detroit Lions to rise to the challenge. The Detroit Lions also had a decent Free Agency filling needs at LB with Justin Durant, CB with Eric Wright and resigning Chris Houston and also adding Stephen Tulloch from the Tennessee Titans to shore up the MLB position . Despite all these moves it wouldn't hurt them to add another corner to shore up that secondary preferrably a Randall Gay or Carlos Rogers who can get his hands on the ball and deflect passes....he just can't seem to catch them for interceptions however. But the true key out of all this despite the Lions defensive line with Suh, Fairley, Avril and Vanden Bosch that might be one of the best in the league if not the best defensive line, the real key to their season is the health of 3rd year QB Matthew Stafford.
The last thing Stafford wants his legacy to be remembered as in a china doll, he does get hit a lot and he has shown toughness preferrably against the Cleveland Browns in his rookie season when he separated his shoulder on one play yet still managed to throw the game winning touchdown to Brandon Pettigrew with no time remaining. He also showed when healthy last season he's a leader throwing 6 touchdowns and only 1 interception in his short time played especially against the Washington Redskins last season when he threw what turned out to be the game winning touchdown pass in that shootout as well against the New York Jets who had a solid showing until he got hurt and chances are if he doesn't the Lions would have ended up beating the Jets as well. The Detroit Lions lost many close games last season and this looks like it should be the season where they finally change all that but really this will all depend on the health of Matthew Stafford who could easily be the 2nd or 3rd best QB in the NFC North when healthy.
3. Minnesota Vikings. They lost Sidney Rice but gained Jerry Aromashadu from the Chicago Bears, picked up WR Michael Jenkins but most importantly of all they traded for QB Donovan McNabb who may very well still have something left in the tank despite the terrible season he had in Washington last season getting benched for Rex Grossman and throwing a career high in interceptions. Things could be different in Minnesota than they were in Washington because his WR corps aren't bad despite the loss of Sidney Rice he still has an explosive threat in Percy Harvin, a possible decent possession receiver in Michael Jenkins, Jerry Aromashadu and also Bernard Berrian. There is also a possibility they could sign a physical deep threat in Braylon Edwards though it seems unlikeable he'll be signed there due to his latest off the field issues.
4. Chicago Bears. This would be a crazy transition from going from a season to making the NFC Championship game to a season finishing last in the division. But since the Chicago Bears weren't able to make any huge free agent acquisitions with the signing of WR Roy Williams and RB Marion Barber recently cut from the Dallas Cowboys and LB Vernon Gholston from the New York Jets not to mention they lost C Olin Kreutz, deep threat WR Jerry Aromashadu so they could be headed for a long season. Jay Cutler is missing a target to throw since traded from the Denver Broncos when he had Brandon Marshall, now I know that Roy Williams did have his best year under the Martz system in 2007 and that was probably the main reason Chicago signed him despite his seasons with the Dallas Cowboys where he clearly has had issues catching the football. If they end up signing a top WR like a Braylon Edwards or a Malcolm Floyd to give Jay Cutler a real target I'd expect better from them but since they did nothing to improve their team the Chicago Bears football team could be looking at a season they wish would have stayed locked out. Update: They also recently lost DT Tommie Harris on that defensive line and Jay Cutler's safety net in TE Greg Olson, a bad season for Jay Cutler might be in store and could be run out of Chicago by the end of the this season not saying he will but it is possible.

If Kemba Walker lands at 8 should the Pistons take him?
Last year's NBA Draft the Detroit Pistons struck gold in landing a solid 6'10 250 lbs big man in Greg Monroe who's a great rebounder, not to mention a great passer and a decent defender as well. At the 7 position in the draft last season he's considered a steal and turned out to be one of the best prospects in last year's draft besides John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins (as far as I'm concerned a better prospect than Landry Fields too who seemed like a steal in the 1st half of the season then his impact died down in the 2nd half of the season when Carmelo was traded to the Knicks ala Brennan Boesch 2010). Unlike last years draft however this NBA Draft coming up this Thursday is considered to be one of the weakest drafts in NBA history. Similar to last years draft the Pistons will be drafting in the same area just one spot lower this season at 8 instead of 7. Even though there seems to be a clear consensus that the #1 overall pick should and will be freshman point guard out of Duke, Kyrie Irving who has drawn comparisons to Chris Paul.
Top talent in the draft includes Irving of course and maybe Derrick Williams who has drawn comparisons to Andre Iguodala due to his inside and outside game not to mention his dynamic ability of course on both ends of the floor. But after Irving and Williams who seem like locks for the first 2 picks the rest of the picks are up in the air. Sure players like Klay Thompson, Kemba Walker, Enes Kanter, Brandon Knight, Jan Vesely, Bismack Biyombo, Chris Singleton and Alec Burks could all go top 10 in the draft but nothing is guaranteed because of the disparity that's attirbuted to this year's draft. Clearly in my view Monroe and Sullinger together would have solved the Pistons lack of rebounding on the offensive and defensive end. It would also have given defenders two big men to keep an eye on, the new Twin Towers ala Tim Duncan and David Robinson in the late 90s and early 2000s. But since he has decided to return for his sophomore season at Ohio State I have to hold off that vision until maybe next season depending where the Pistons land in next years draft. With Sullinger unavailable of course I look at the other potential prospects the Pistons should be looking at. Obviously I would like a big man to compliment Greg Monroe, some might think the Pistons need a point guard since there are many that believe Rodney Stuckey is not a point guard but a combo guard.
As far as I'm concerned the Pistons don't need any more guards when they already have too many guards on the team with Stuckey, Hamilton, Bynum, Ben Gordon and Terrico White. Not to mention I feel no need for a point guard at least in this year's draft since the only point guard that I know will be a sure thing is Kyrie Irving even though Brandon Knight showed some great impact in this years NCAA Tournament. There is hope that maybe the Pistons will get lucky at 8 like how they got lucky at 7 in last years draft with Monroe. Greg Monroe gave the Pistons some help for their lack of rebounding on both ends and a defensive presence even though he doesn't compare to a young Ben Wallace of course. With that being said it shouldn't be hard to see that the Pistons need all the help they can get on playing defense and having rebounding prescences.
There's a chance a Enes Kanter could really help the Pistons out on both ends as he does draw comparisons to Andrea Bargnani who's a great shooting power forward inside and outside. However he will probably end up being drafted in the top 5 though there is a slim chance he could fall to the Pistons at 8 like how it was once thought Monroe might not slip the Pistons at 7 last season except with a lesser chance. The other prospect on the Pistons radar should and would be Bismack Biyombo who is 6'9 but has a 7'7 Wingspan that makes him play like a 7 footer especially on the defensive end, he's a great blocker, a great rebounder as well. Sure he doesn't have a great jumpshot like Kanter but could and possibly will bring energy to the Pistons on both ends on the court. With all this being said he could be a steal in this year's draft just like Monroe was in last years though there is no guarantee he falls to the Pistons or they take him even though many sources have the Pistons taking Biyombo at 8.
Now there's also a possible chance that Kemba Walker could fall to the Pistons at 8 it's just a matter if Joe Dumars and the Pistons have the guts to take him. No doubt I think Kemba Walker is a fantastic, exciting guard to come into the NBA despite him being only a 6'1 guard. We saw what he did in the NCAA Tournament as he just absolutely dominated, nobody could stop him not only can he score but he brings the energy needed for a team on both ends of the floor he has the hustle, the determination to be a really good player in the league. With that being said the Pistons have enough guards on the team in Rodney Stuckey, Richard Hamilton, Ben Gordon, Will Bynum and Terrico White. No need for another one when you can't get rid of one especially Rip Hamilton whose glory days are over even though some fans can't accept it.
As far as I'm concerned the Pistons don't need any more guards when they already have too many guards on the team with Stuckey, Hamilton, Bynum, Ben Gordon and Terrico White. Not to mention I feel no need for a point guard at least in this year's draft since the only point guard that I know will be a sure thing is Kyrie Irving even though Brandon Knight showed some great impact in this years NCAA Tournament. There is hope that maybe the Pistons will get lucky at 8 like how they got lucky at 7 in last years draft with Monroe. Greg Monroe gave the Pistons some help for their lack of rebounding on both ends and a defensive presence even though he doesn't compare to a young Ben Wallace of course. With that being said it shouldn't be hard to see that the Pistons need all the help they can get on playing defense and having rebounding prescences.
There's a chance a Enes Kanter could really help the Pistons out on both ends as he does draw comparisons to Andrea Bargnani who's a great shooting power forward inside and outside. However he will probably end up being drafted in the top 5 though there is a slim chance he could fall to the Pistons at 8 like how it was once thought Monroe might not slip the Pistons at 7 last season except with a lesser chance. The other prospect on the Pistons radar should and would be Bismack Biyombo who is 6'9 but has a 7'7 Wingspan that makes him play like a 7 footer especially on the defensive end, he's a great blocker, a great rebounder as well. Sure he doesn't have a great jumpshot like Kanter but could and possibly will bring energy to the Pistons on both ends on the court. Some fans still can't accept that ever since Chauncey left, Rip's play has been majorly affected, not to mention since he is getting older as well. Now at 33 years old its time to cut ties with a player who has been a cancer in the locker room and can't produce the same numbers in the past he has produced before Chauncey was trade. If Joe D was to even think about taking Kemba Walker he'd have to find a way to get rid of Rip Hamilton first since Kemba like Ben Gordon is an undersized combo guard, 2 of which the Pistons already have in Gordon and Stuckey so no need for another. So when it comes to my clear consensus the Pistons should take either a 6'11 center in Enes Kanter as their first choice but if he's unavailable take a 6'9 shotblocker in Bismack Biyombo who has the hustle and determination to be a really good player as well. The Pistons most assured need to beef up their frontcourt before they beef up their backcourt just look at the Dallas Mavericks who won the NBA Championship this season they had players in the frontcourt in Marion, Nowitzki and Chandler whom all had the determination to get the job done whether it was going after loose balls or staying on the boards and getting foul calls, playing smart basketball.
My conclusion is no matter who the Pistons go with they should make sure the prospect they select has the hustle and determination to be a really good player, that he has a chip on his shoulder; that he has something to prove.
UPDATE: Bismack Biyombo according to analysts would now be considered a reach at 8 with that being said since now I'm starting to feel positive there are no legitimate centers at this part of the draft. So from where the Pistons are drafting they should take the best player available over need and if Kemba Walker somehow slips to 8 we should pull the trigger and draft him he might be solid or he might even be more...he might actually turn into a really good player maybe great not just solid. Sure the Pistons are taking a risk but the risk may be worth a reward. Besides what do the Pistons really have to lose at the 8 spot? If they're terrible again next season then that's when they should try to lose every game possible to ensure themselves of at least a top 3 pick where they could get a legitimate C to go along Greg Monroe in a much stronger draft unlike this years. Yes drafting Kemba would give the Pistons too many guards and Pistons fans would be calling Joe Dumars the next Matt Millen (wide receivers) for having too many guards.

But perhaps now with the new owner Tom Gores in place things will finally be done drafting Kemba should force the Pistons to find a new home for Rip to at least complete the first step of rebuilding the roster. So to answer my own question yes the Pistons should take Kemba Walker if he somehow falls to 8, he seems to have a great chip on his shoulder and very well could have the determination to be Allen Iverson...just without the attitude you know. Which is why I say sure he's small at 6'1 but so was Allen Iverson maybe we've been underestimating his talent he might not just be a solid player he could be great.
